Jan TaklePastoral Care Experience:

Provided pastoral care and pastoral counseling in a para-ministry setting in times of crisis, times of seeking, and times of life transitions dealing with spiritual growth, identity formation, maturity issues, discipleship, community building, and healing prayer. Worked extensively with severely traumatized people, including those with dissociative and borderline personalities. Conducted intensive prayer times with individuals, families, and groups in para-ministry, home, and community settings both locally and nationally.

Taught Life Model concepts, skills, and exercises in workshop settings, seminars, and intensive one-on-one or group experiences. Worked in individual, group, clinical, congregational, and community settings to foster development of maturity and skills needed to thrive and flourish, with an emphasis on mind, body, and spirit connection locally and nationally.

Clinical Skills:

Clinical internship and paid experience that provided medical social work in a metropolitan hospice setting using interdisciplinary team approach with terminal adult patients and their families. Social work emphasis included advanced directives; legal concerns; financial concerns; ethical wills; community resources; caregiver support/placement issues; and clinical intervention for depression, anxiety, family and end of life issues as indicated.

Clinical experience in providing case management for residential homeless families as part of a multi-disciplinary team in a transitional housing setting. Social work emphasis on weekly or more frequent case management with all family members along with the family unit as “client.”

Interpersonal/Communication Skills:

Chaired committees and workshops concerning: sexuality, family-of-origin/self-esteem, creativity workshop (week long), creative problem solving, and facilitator networking. Facilitated weekly post-relationship self-help support groups, served as long-term lead facilitator of a support center.

Coordinated implementation and integration of communication system and telecommunications (voice and TDD) for metropolitan community college campus interfacing with students, staff, faculty, community, vendors, State of Minnesota, and alumni.

As part of a 5-8 member training team, planned, developed curricula, presented, and facilitated five-day training for facilitators of post-relationship self-help support groups. The skills taught in large and small groups included: tuning in, setting the group tone, self-awareness, group dynamics, active listening, assertiveness, giving/receiving feedback, and termination/closure.

Was full-time Foster Parent for developmentally disabled adolescent and provided adult respite to other caregivers. Coordinated agency, community, and school resources and implemented specialized treatment plan for clients.

Organizational Skills:

Simultaneously maintained financial services for several ministries. Provided for accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and commensurate one-person office functions as needed.

Maintained computerized accounts payable system including invoice payments, reimbursements, and monthly reconciliation of household accounts for over twenty residential program sites.

Prepared general ledger entries and adjustments for six million dollar corporate budget. Managed corporate checking and money market accounts, funds transfers, quarterly taxes, and corporate return information as appropriate. Trained fifty plus management and middle management staff of twenty-four programs regarding budget procedures for handicapped and special adult services.

Implemented, trained, and supervised Information Center staff/team as new program/department for metropolitan community college. Set and implemented standards for new and returning student information inquiries. Multi-tasking function included walk-in, telephone, voicemail, electronic, and written inquiries/questions. Coordinated the Center’s high volume of requests.
