In Living the God Life, John Ortberg shares with us a generous collection of his own musings and reflections on the wonder of God's love. It is a book that must be read slowly and savored, or else you will miss what a treasure it truly is. John has been walking in grace for a long time now, and this gift to us is very rich.
He opens the book with a story about how much his sister loved her favorite rag doll, and how as an adult she had the doll restored so she could give it to her daughter, who also loved the doll very dearly. He finishes that story with these words:
"There is a love that creates value in what is loved. There is a love that turns rag dolls into priceless treasures. There is a love that fastens itself onto ragged little creatures, for reasons that no one could ever quite figure out, and makes them precious and valued beyond calculation. This is a love beyond reason. This is the love of God. This is the love with which God loves you and me." (p.13).
How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! (1Jn.3:1)
